lodge and joseph
Late February, Lodge School Kuching held an hour-long musical titled 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat'. Simply put, it was an amazing show. Think about it! Students of all ages pitching in their raw and unrefined talent for a reknowned musical performed day and night in London. I watched the DVD last night. Sadly, I couldn't be there for the real thing as I was in Subang (one an a half hour's flight away).
First things first. To make the long story short, a NZ director came up to Kuching to direct and train the kids of various ages for the phenomenal day. Teachers and other staff pitched in whatever they could as well. The cast was great. Performance was dazzling. Singing was superb. This bunch of kids managed to woo just about everyone in Kuching who came to catch the show. Besides that, publicity was rather abundant, and pictures splashed the headlines the next few days. What this represents, really, is a lifetime opportunity for students of this age to have a great deal of fun. And at the same time, make new friends.
Bringing me to my second point. At Lodge, just like any other school I presume, there always has been a generation gap between all the years. This totally absolved whatever gap that was present for this few generations of students. Students now can walk along the corridors and recognise students half their age and so on. The little ones can mingle around the elders ones. No ego in check. Nothing but sheer pleasure, fun and bliss. Prime example of this newfound school spirit was the Damai holiday/trip shortly thereafter. The amazing thing isn't the trip. It's the fact that those who went for the trip were not people from the same class. Or the same year. Those who made up the party group were those of various ages! Big kids and small kids goofing around on the beach. It's hard to imagine. Especially for students of Lodge. For disbelieving me, I had my sister's photos to say something for themselves. Group photo had kids of all heights. I was wondering how the heck they managed to organise something like this. But with this newfound spirit and friends, I guess it wasn't much of a problem. In short, this musical has fulfilled more than one purpose (meant to raise funds for new block developement). It has managed to gather the many students of Lodge of all ages to come together under the same flag and banner of unity.
